The best haircut options as your hairline recedes further from your temples

This article applies to the highlighted hairlines above.

As your hairline recedes further, it increases the prominence of your forehead. As a result, the primary goal of your haircut is to try and reduce the size of your forehead.

AVOID: Long hairstyles – If you have an advanced receding hairline, but no thinning at the crown of your head, it’s better to avoid longer hairstyles as the hair being pulled back will accentuate the size of your forehead.

BEST OPTION: Medium textured haircuts – your goal at this point is to try and bring your forehead back into balance as your hairline pulls back. Haircuts with a lot of texture and a bit more length to play with will be your best option. Ask your barber/stylist about options that are longer on the front, and shorter on the back, as these will bring balance to your hair density.

ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Super short haircuts – confidence is key with this one. In going for a buzzcut or similar style, you’re exposing your hairline fully and owning it. This is a great option, especially if you connect it with a beard that can keep interest and help frame your face.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION: At this stage, you may also want to consider options to prevent further hair loss, as the most common treatments help you keep your hair, not regrow it. It’s much more difficult and expensive to re-grow it once it’s gone. Check out our guide to thinning hair and male pattern baldness for some strategies to keep hold of your follicles.
